Anyone could make that music with that equipment!
Andy had some answer to that.
Well, what can I say. I started to make music for myself only, and that has only changed slightly over the years. I would describe my instrumental music like this:
Usually quite nice-sounding and melodic, but not terribly interesting or original. Lacks edge.
I think there is some inherent random oddness about some compositional aspects of my music that makes it sound amateurish. This is true especially for the drums. Nothing to do about that except learning by doing. On the other hand, if there wasn’t anything more to learn, I’d probably do something else. So excuuuuuse me, and get listening!
Project Maksimi
A true colla-Bro-ation, started in 2008. My brother Sami writes the melody and chords and sings the song, and I produce the music. Nitta Nehrenheim’s lyrics on all and Kari Riihimäki’s guitar on some songs. And not only are they his guitars, he’s also palying them!
These are actually not finished yet; the vocals will be re-recorded, some annoying details will be fixed, and finally they will be mastered and maybe published somehow. Two tracks to go, then we’ll see.
I think these are actually quite nice!
These are actually quite nice!
Trio Duo
Songs made for work-related kick-offs, parties and the like. Originally a duo with Jouni (and occasional guests), but currently Trio Duo is Solo. This list is in chronological order, starting with Projektipäällikkö from 1999. Personally I think age correlates inversely to quality.
As a fun detail, Projektipäällikkö became a national hit among IT nerds (under the name “Ihanaa ohjelmoijat”, mostly). One friday night, Jouni and me grabbed a case of beer & some potato chips and started recording (Jouni on vox), and once the song was done a couple of days later, we played it to the guys at work. Instant company-wide hit. After that I sent it out to one (1) person per email, and it didn’t take long before I started receiving it back from friends asking whether I had heard it. Soon everybody in the business (as well as students) knew it. Nobody knew whodunnit, but there was much speculation and discussion in different forums :-). Occasionally I run into people that for some reason allude to it, and then I feel I need to inform them about its origin. It’s always worth it. A couple of years ago a customer of ours totally cracked up when he heard it was Jouni and me behind the song that he knew from his youth. Fun memories.
Back to the topic at hand. There’s also a correlation between the listener’s degree of intoxication and the perception of how great the songs are. So Cheers!
MODEified – Depeche Mode Covers
MODEified was a semi-annual project in the late 90’s through the late 00’s which resulted in at least 7 albums of Depeche Mode covers made by Depeche Mode fans and organised through the Bong DM mailing list. These are my contributions, with other people helping me out with the singing part. Shake the Disease, which I sing, didn’t make it. No surprise really, as it is quite horrible. I can’t bring myself to listen to it. Be warned.
MODEified has sadly been purged from the Internet.
BUT: as it happens, I own the domain, and have the web site files. One day I hope I’ll find the energy to rebuild MODEified.
Early Instrumentals
These are the ones that started it all in 1993.
Here are my original tracks, starting from the first one ever to an end of an era. These were originally finished between 1993 and 1997, but some of them have been remade as late as 2005. Still, that’s some seriously old shit!
Although no masterpieces, these have a special place in my heart.
The naming convention here should be obvious: EgenXX, where XX denotes the number of track as I’ve started it. So 01 is my first track ever! In fact 01-03 where all originally made within 48 hours.
Later Instrumentals
Misc instrumentals done for fun.
Misc Collaborations
Collaborations with my cousin as well as a couple of friends.
Misc Party Music
Made the Hall of Mirrors cover for the elementary school reunion in 2018. Kraftwerk’s lawyers actually thought I was using copyrighted material, but I beat them . Also a couple of songs made for Turun Jujutsuseura parties.
And here’s another that SoundCloud thought, quite rightfully, to be copyright infringement.
Christmas Rap Music
Hint: Rap in Swedish.
These were made as a Christmas present for Sanna @ Turun Jujutsuseura, who picked up this particularly nasty habit in the military.
